DIY: 2019 – Ania Bas & Amy Pennington: Performance for shy people. Playwriting for dyslexics.

Two day experiment at performance production by shy people and performance writing by bad spellers.

Deadline for applications: 2pm, Thursday 20 June
This DIY is supported by Heart of Glass

Project summary

A two-day adventure that will be filled with provocations and exercises undertaken in the context of St Helens that will result in performances and scripts, conversations and exchanges, collaboration and daft laughs.

This DIY is for people who want to perform but battle with feeling inadequate when on stage; it is a workshop for people who struggle with language but want to write. We will experiment and navigate around our shortcomings making it into strengths.

We will use theatrical forms and methods of playwriting, stage directions, acting and directing as our methodology and apply it to the contexts of this DIY

How to apply

We are keen to work with people who are: shy but interested in performance; people who want to work with text but have to navigate around obstacles such as dyslexia, second language and more. All levels of experience welcome.

Dates, times and location

Dates: Monday 18- Tuesday 19 November (10am – 5pm)
Location: Heart of Glass, St Helens
