DIY: 2019 – Lateisha Davine Lovelace-Hanson: To The Ritual Knowledge Of Remembering

3 day immersive workshop, exploring the body, ancestral memory and the land. To liberate creative actions towards a Decolonised Future.

Deadline for applications: 2pm, Thursday 20 June
This DIY is supported by ]performance s p a c e[

Project summary

To The Ritual Knowledge Of Remembering’ is a HIT THE GROUND project. We will bring artists and practitioners of diverse disciplines, backgrounds and realities together. To create an audacious ceremonial journey: activating consciousness, liberating the body and fucking with dimensions. Led by Lateisha Davine Lovelace-Hanson of Hit The Ground with guest facilitators (tbc).

Across 3 days we will create a non-hierarchical temporary community, to release personal, collective and ancestral memory: meaning: movement.

We will work with ritual, improvisation and trusting the old ways of being – exploring the body (movement, breath, contact-work), writing (intention, self-writing, voices), land based practices (sensory exploration, walking, planting) and sound/ music making. We will engage these creative tools and practices that unlock and create space for afro-futurist feminist queer realities, to ask ourselves as artists how we can conjure this decolonised world into existence.

To create space where our spirits can be free.

How to apply

This project will be a visceral and embodied exploration into the past, present and future as tangible actions, realms/ realities and pathways.  Creating a safe space to heal the brutal separations colonialism has forced onto the human experience and human relationships along the lines of race, gender, sexuality, class, religion and ability.

We will create an inclusive and anti-oppressive space – paying attention to how we behave, see one another and support each other to Grow. Applications are open to anyone wanting to go on this type of journey, with applications from people who identify as Womxn, PoC and/ or Queer are encouraged.

A small contribution will be made towards travel and accommodation. Lunch will be provided over the 3 days
