Call for proposals: Readings from the Pulpit
Proposal deadline Monday 13 May at 12 noon.
What would you like to read from, in the LADA Study Room?
LADA is marking its 20th Anniversary in 2019 and we are celebrating with a series of initiatives throughout the year including the publication, AGENCY: A Partial History of Live Art (edited by Theron Schmidt and co-published with Intellect Books); a series of 20 limited edition artworks titled Tiny Live Art (Development Agency) by Robert Daniels; a radio series on Live Art histories and futures for Resonance FM; a box set of 20 postcards representing key LADA projects and initiatives from 1999 – 2019; and a series of free events here at our home at The Garrett Centre – Live Art on the page, the stage and the screen.
Live Art on the page, the stage and the screen will include As Seen on TV (April), an evening screening of clips from TV programmes which inadvertently or otherwise feature artists better known from the worlds of performance art and Live Art; Pop Goes Live Art – Icons on Icons (October), an evening in which some of LADA’s icons talk about their own icons from popular culture; and Readings from the Pulpit (June), an evening with artists’ readings of significant Live Art writings held in LADA’s Study Room.
Readings From The Pulpit: call for proposals
Readings From The Pulpit will take place at LADA on the evening of Thursday 6 June.
We are seeking proposals from artists, writers, educators, and other curious folk who would like to read out 5 minute extracts of books housed in the Study Room – these may be books that have particularly influenced and inspired them, or been their gateway to Live Art, or been the first book they ever looked at in the Study Room, or whatever.
All titles held in the Study Room can be found here.
We will invite ten of the proposers to read from their proposed books to an assembled audience on the 6th June alongside artists who will read from their own titles that have been published by LADA.
The readings will be filmed and presented online as stand-alone videos on LADA’s Live Online Channel and as an edited compilation.
If you would like to propose a reading, we would be grateful if you could) complete this simple form by Monday 13 May.
We will let you know if we are able to include your proposed reading in the event from the week starting 20 May.
We regret that we will not be able to offer fees for participation in Readings From The Pulpit, but in the spirit of ‘reading’, we will offer all ‘readers’ a copy of a LADA publication as a gesture of thanks.
