LADA Screens: Open Call 2018
Deadline for applications: Monday 14th May 2018, 5pm
LADA is inviting two proposals for existing videos or films to show online as part of our regular screening programme LADA Screens. One of the screenings will run throughout July and the other throughout August 2018. Both will be launched with a single ‘live’ event at LADA at the end of July.
The selected artists will be invited to propose the format for the ‘live’ event. This may involve a talk or discussion, some kind of performative event, or the screening of a companion film selected either from LADA’s Study Room, which holds substantial collections of archival film and video relating to the history of Live Art and performance, or from another source of their choosing.
About LADA Screens
LADA Screens platforms moving image work by artists who make live work. This includes short films/videos, short documentaries, works to camera, performance documentation and archival footage. Each screening is available to view on our online channel for a month and is launched with a live event at our space in Bethnal Green, London. Online art magazine, thisistomorrow also features the work on their website for the duration of the screening.
What we are interested in:
- Profiling work by artists who have existing moving image material that has emanated from, or is closely connected to, their Live Art/performance practice.
- Profiling artists whose practice is underrepresented in mainstream spaces and contexts within art and performance.
- Videos or films that will work well for an online screening context.

Further Information
This is not a commission for new work and we do not expect artists to make new material especially for this opportunity. However we recognise that there may be some editing and contextualisation needed in order to present the work for LADA Screens.
Whilst there is no prescribed length for the videos and films we show as part of LADA Screens we generally present materials that is between 10 and 60 minutes long. If your work is of a substantially different duration please offer some explanation about this in your application.
Successful applicants will be notified by the beginning of June 2018.
Offer
We are offering honorariums of £200 to each selected artist towards the screenings and for the live launch event. The artists will retain full copyright of the work.
For each artist LADA will:
- Present the work on the LADA and Thisistomorrow websites and on the LADA Screens Channel on Live Online (LADA’s video platform).
- Host a live event at The Garrett Centre, LADA’s space in Bethnal Green.
- Share the work on LADA and thisistomorrow communication channels (Vimeo, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter).
- Include a copy of the work in the LADA Study Room so that it can be accessed for research purposes.
If you have any questions about this open call please email Alex Eisenberg.
