Floating Cinema Commission

UP Projects and the Live Art Development Agency are excited to invite proposals, from emerging artists, for a new Live Art commission for the Floating Cinema 2014 programme.

Deadline for application is 5th May 2014.

The successful applicant will receive a series of tailored professional development/ mentoring sessions, critical feedback from invited representatives from the sector, production /technical support and inclusive budget of £2,500.

The Floating Cinema is a unique mobile cultural space based on London’s waterways. A bespoke barge designed by Duggan Morris Architects, the Floating Cinema seats up to 12 people on-board and has scope for indoor and outdoor screenings, interventions, workshops, live web streaming, floating tours and multimedia events whilst afloat and moored.

The 2014 programme, developed by Somewhere, responds to the theme ‘Extra-International’ and will focus on themes of migration, and the interpretation of the UK, its culture and its people, through the experiences of other nationalities. Taking the waterways as a curatorial framework, the programme will also explore themes of transient cultures and the shifting contexts of canals, rivers and seas both locally and internationally.

The proposed work should respond to the ‘Extra-International’ theme and also in some way respond to or utilise the boats live streaming possibilities and be able to be repeated in different locations across the summer programme.

This opportunity builds on the success of previous commissions; Ian Giles’ A Smaller Sound, A Bigger Crowd in 2011 and Tim Bromage Jim Dahl’s Unreal Boat Tour in 2013.
