DIY: 2009 – Tim Jeeves Know Thyselves

A durational workshop exploring unfamiliar modes of interaction and peer-led information exchange, Know Thyselves presents opportunities for reflection on artistic practise in a challenging but supportive environment.

From 9:30am on the Saturday 22 August through until 10:00am the next day.
The Basement, Brighton (www.thebasement.uk.com)

Project summary:
Taking place over 24 consecutive hours of skill share, storytelling and unconventional networking, Know Thyselves will be an experience by turns intense, meditative and ridiculous. Ostensibly an opportunity for information exchange and problem solving, the workshop positions that undertaking as background to a broader range of activities. Participants will address issues in new ways, tackling them from new directions and in less confrontational circumstances than if addressed head-on.

Application procedure:
Open to practising artists at any stage of their careers, applicants should submit:
1) A summary of an issue or problem they are currently working to resolve. This issue could relate to either a specific project or their practise as a whole.
2) Some advice that they would be willing to share with others as a part of the event.
3) A brief biog or CV.
Application should be made to [email protected] by 6pm on Friday 17 July.
Successful applicants will be notified by Friday 24 July.

About the artist:
At certain junctures, in particular contexts and amidst a myriad of other inclinations, Tim will turn his artistic attention towards the flexibility of identity. Aware that these words may invalidate such investigations by being read as a statement of a constant self, he has embarked on a project entitled ‘Artist’s Statefragment’. Viewable at www.timjeeves.com, this work, written in hypertext, enables an increasing number of statements to be viewed non-linearly and with fluctuating priority.
