DIY: 2004 – Live Art Campers! – East
- Year
- 2013
Come for a weekend away! Country walks, sitting around the fire, drinking and chatting til late, interspersed with ‘fun’ professional development sessions.
Led by FrenchMottershead
Friday 20, Saturday 21, and Sunday 22 July 2007.
East England, Suffolk.
Deadline: FULLY BOOKED.
The Project
A mini-break for emerging artists based in Eastern England, led by Rebecca French and Andrew Mottershead.
We’ll cook and eat together. We’ll go on socially-engineered walks through the Suffolk heathland, sharing creative experiences. We’ll sit around the fire, drinking and chatting til late, giggling, telling stories, arguing about whose turn it is to do the cooking.
Interspersed with this frivolity will be sessions, introduced by Rebecca and Andrew, drawing on their own experiences, but very much about the group sharing ideas and methodologies. These will cover topics such as being strategic and creative with marketing to audiences, programmers and funders; keeping in touch with work; setting up the support networks we need; easing the load through collaborations; proposal-writing; and so on …
We’ll be based at Darsham Country Centre, a converted railway station, with camping in the garden. It’s near Minsmere bird reserve and 4 miles from the Suffolk coast. www.woodcraft.org.uk/centres/darsham
Campers will arrive pm of Friday 20 July and leave pm of Sunday 22 July 2007.
Live Art Campers! is free and includes accommodation. You will need to get yourself to Darsham station (on the Ipswich-Lowestoft line) and contribute to food and drink.
Application Procedure
There are ten places for emerging artists from the Eastern region. Please email[email protected] (with DIY EAST in the subject line) with a few sentences about who you are, why you would like to come camping and what you hope to gain from the experience.
We must get your application by 6pm on 11 June 2007 and we’ll let you know by 18 June. At this point, we’ll give more information on arrival/departure times and a list of what you need to bring, including sleeping bag.
About the Artists
Rebecca and Andrew create art that explores identity, social ritual and the everyday public and private realms in which they are played out. They have developed creative strategies for showing their work in various sites from Tate Modern to pet food shops. They are currently working on commissions for EAST International and Situation Leeds. www.frenchmottershead.com
