Thinkers In Residence: Manuel Vason, 2005

As Thinker in Residence Manuel Vason is considering the challenges of the photographic documentation and rendition of performance through the development of a website and an exploration of ways in which images can be further represented and disseminated through exhibition, publication and distribution within wider public spheres.

The photographer Manuel Vason was born in Padova Italy in 1974.  In 1998 he moved to London and whilst assisting some of the most highly regarded photographers in the fashion industry, including Nick Knight, he started the project photography and publishing project Exposures with the Live Art Development Agency. Published by Black Dog Publishing in 2002 Exposures is a collaboration between Manuel and twenty UK based artists who are working with their bodies as their material, subject and site in provocative and often controversial ways. In September 2003 Manuel graduated from Central Saint Martins with an MA in Fine Art.

Manuel Vason's fascination with the human body found its best manifestation when associated with the notion of Performance. His work could be viewed as series of studies on the possibilities of the human body's expression. Since 1999 his work has been published in Italian Vogue, L'Uomo Vogue, ID, Dazed and Confused, Flash Art, Frieze and Tate Magazine amongst many others and exhibited at Tate Liverpool, ICA London, Whitechapel Gallery and Luke & A Gallery London.
