DIY: 2004 – FREE EVALUATION SERVICE with Lucy Kimbell

18, 20 and 25 February 2004
Appointment times will be agreed in advance with participants and will be between 11-4pm.
Said Business School,
Oxford University,
Park End Street,
Oxford

The Project

Lucy Kimbell is offering six artists a free evaluation of their practice. These 90-minute, one-to-one sessions will offer insights into the languages and process of evaluation and help participants decide which ‘performance indicators’ are right for them. If you are…

  • Wondering if you are on track to meet your aims
  • Confused by arts funding procedures that ask you to evaluate the benefits of your work
  • Interested in the contemporary obsession with evaluation in education, academia and government

… this service is an opportunity to reflect on your practice, its wider context and evaluation culture.

Participants will receive a unique personalised report after their session.

Application procedure

Places are limited to six London-based artists who will be selected by application.

Applicants are invited to send an email to [email protected] by 6pm on Wednesday 28 January 2004 containing the following:

  1. Your contact details
  2. In 200 words, describe how you currently evaluate your art practice.
  3. In 200 words, evaluate someone else’s practice.
  4. Brief biography

Selection of applicants will be made by Lucy Kimbell and will be based on achieving a mix of people, experience and practices. Applicants will be notified by Friday 6 February 2004.

Please note that the venue has good wheelchair access.

Cost

This is a free service and there are no cost to participants.   Return travel to Oxford from London will be reimbursed.

The Organiser

Lucy Kimbell’s recent projects include Audit (Book Works, 2002), and The LIX Index (web project for Channel 4/Arts Council/Film and Video Umbrella, 2002-3). She is currently a practitioner research fellow at the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art, Oxford University, developing projects under the title ‘I measure therefore I am’ – a (possibly hopeless) attempt to understand how value is measured and communicated.   www.lucykimbell.com
