re.act.feminism ♯2: a performing archive
Edited by Bettina Knaup and Beatrice Ellen Stammer, re.act.feminism is an extraordinary new publication exploring feminist, gender-critical and queer performance art which played a key role in the development of performance from the 1960s to the beginning of the 1980s, as well as contemporary positions from Eastern and Western Europe, the Mediterranean, the Middle East, the USA and Latin America. The publication has developed from the re.act.feminism exhibition, an expanding, temporary and living performance archive that travelled through six European countries from 2011 to 2013.
The London launch will include presentations by Bettina Knaup, Mare Tralla, Alice Ross & Bernard G Mills.
re.act.feminism is co-published by the Live Art Development Agency and Verlag fur Moderne Kunst. Copies of the book will be available to buy on the evening or here.
A Cocktail Seminar on Feminism, Live Art, Archives and the Academy
An opportunity to hear from some of the exceptional women who spend their time thinking and writing about Feminism and its relationship to performance.
As well as presentations and provocations by Catherine Silverstone, Jen Harvie, Geraldine Harris, Kim Solga, Caoimhe McAvenchey and Eleanor Roberts, the Seminar will provide a space to debate these issues, discuss historical and contemporary artists, and explore the ways in which we could expand knowledge of, and access to, Feminist practices within research culture and pedagogical structures. We very much encourage students, scholars and practicing artists to join us for the Seminar and contribute to these debates.
This evening is part of both Queen Mary’s Peopling The Palace(s) Festival and the Live Art Development Agency’s Restock, Rethink, Reflect Three project on Live Art and Feminism which aims to map and mark the impact of performance on feminist histories and the contribution of artists to discourses around contemporary gender politics.
Lois Weaver of Queen Mary and LADA have been awarded CreativeWorks funding to research ‘Live Art, Feminism, and the Archive’, with the aim of surveying and enhancing the representation of Feminist practices within LADA’s Study Room holdings, whilst considering new strategies for archiving live practices. As part of her research Lois Weaver is conducting a number of dialogue events designed to share knowledge and shed new light on historical and contemporary feminist work.
Supported by Creativeworks London, as part of a project to enhance LADA’s Study Room holdings on Live Art and Feminism.
