VITAL 06: International Chinese Live Art Festival

VITAL 06 will be the start of a major programme of Live Art events by Chinese Arts Centre. The festival will take place from 2 – 5 November 2006 and will be followed by a year of residencies by Chinese artists in collaboration with institutions across England.

These activities will culminate in a second festival, VITAL 07, which will take place in Manchester in October 07. VITAL 07 will include an international conference as well a programme of performances. The discussions, residencies and programmed artists will be celebrated in the VITAL publication due out in Spring 08.


VITAL 06 will contain Live Art performances, film screenings, and artists' talks and presentations. Artists include Marcus Young (USA), He Chengyao (China), Leung Po (Hong Kong), Patty Chang (USA), Mad for Real (UK), Edwin Lung (UK/Hong Kong), Dai Guangyu (China), He Yungchang (China), Yadong Hao (UK), Lee Wen (Singapore), Ying Mei Duan (Germany), Yuen Kin-Leung (Hong Kong), Zheng Lianjie (China) and Lisa Cheung (UK).

VITAL is being developed in association with the Live Art Development Agency, is supported by Art Council of England, and is proud to have Art Asia Pacific Magazine as media sponsor.

Chinese Arts Centre was established in 1986 and acts as the national agency to promote, commission and exhibit Chinese artists. Following on from a £2.5 million Lottery grant it opened it's new Centre in November 2003 and received a RIBA award for architecture and was a finalist for the accessible building of the year in 2004.
