When Earth Speaks: A Dirty Ensemble

When Earth Speaks: A Dirty Ensemble by Live Art in Rural UK artist Miranda Whall, is a collaboration between humans and the earth, exploring the intersection between the arts and sciences. Human and non-human multidisciplinary performers including a mountain, the soil, a soil sensor network, scientific data, musicians, a Butoh dancer, a visual artist, and robotics will respond to a data stream broadcast live into the theatre from a soil sensor network in the Cambrian mountains. The performance will present a new perspective on the uplands of Mid Wales, the Elenydd.

Featuring: Miranda Whall, Neil Luck, Mayah Kadish, Angela Wai- Nok Hui, Tim Beckham, Ashley John Long, and Constance Humphries

When Earth Speaks: A Dirty Ensemble has been supported by LADA as part of Live Art in Rural UK.

About When Earth Speaks

Miranda Whall’s When Earth Speaks explores the dynamic and interconnected relationship between earth (nature), scientific data, and humans, and how each element influences and is being influenced by the other. Understanding and managing this dynamic relationship is crucial for ensuring the long-term health and sustainability of both human society and the natural environment.

When Earth Speaks was conceived through the NERC funded cross-disciplinary research project Making the Invisible Visible: Instrumenting and Interpreting an Upland Landscape for Climate Change Resilience, led by Prof Mariecia Fraser from IBERS, Aberystwyth University, and developed through a subsequent NERC funded cross disciplinary research project: Planetary Multispecies Politics in Action led by Prof Milja Kurki, Interpol, Aberystwyth University.
