LADA is thrilled to present a screening of films and video artworks by the visual and performance artist, filmmaker and musician Kembra Pfahler (b. 1961, Hermosa Beach, CA, USA).
Formative in the LA punk scene in the 1970s, Pfahler is perhaps most widely recognised for her leading role in downtown New York’s underground scene in the 1980s and ‘90s, in particular as the lead singer of the theatrical and horror-inspired glam, punk-shock-rock band The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black. Co-founded in 1990, TVHOKB’s legendary live performances incorporate music, drawings, hand-made props, photography and film to dismantle existing paradigms of femininity and advance her philosophies of availabilism, anti-naturalism and beautilism.
We are very pleased to be joined by Kembra for this event who will be in conversation with curator and performer Phoebe Patey-Ferguson following the screenings.

About LADA Screens
LADA Screens is a series of free, online screenings of seminal performance documentation, works to camera, short films/video and archival footage. It is part of Live Online, LADA’s dedicated space where you can watch short videos and films drawn from LADA’s Study Room or generated through our programmes and initiatives.
Each screening will be available to view for a limited time only, and will be launched with a live event at our space in Bethnal Green, London. Online art magazine, thisistomorrow will also feature the films on their website for the duration of the screenings.
LADA Screens is curated by the Live Art Development Agency (LADA). LADA is a 'Centre for Live Art': a knowledge centre, a production centre for programmes and publications, a research centre setting artists and ideas in motion, and an online centre for digital experimentation, representation and dissemination.
