DIY: 2010 – Ania Bas Detour – in search of alternatives for de/touring live art works
- Year
- 2010
Extend the life of temporary/one-off/site-specific/context-specific/ephemeral live art works and explore alternatives to touring.
Detour is a search for ways of extending the life of temporary/one-off/site-specific/context-specific/ephemeral live art works and exploring alternatives to touring. Participating artists will stretch possibilities of live art works through exploration of franchising, limited editions, uses of documentation, reaching new audiences, interweaving various art forms – and more!
Detour is not simply looking for preservation of the work but for extending the life of the work beyond the ephemerality of performance itself and touches on problem of ‘sustainability’ of live art practice.

The artist:
Ania Bas is a collaborative artist and developer of art projects. Ania’s practice is process-based and explores themes of communication, community, instability and repetitiveness of everyday life. Ania often invites non-artists and artists to take part in creative processes that lead to creation of the work. Final outcomes are usually very temporary in their nature. Ania uses various media that suit best the context and process of the work: photography, site-specific performances, mobile phones, text, body, temporary art in public spaces, walking, sitting and talking. www.aniabas.com
This project was a response to the DIY 7 Call for Proposals.
