Marina Abramović: Live Culture Talk
For over 20 years Marina Abramović has collected materials from film, dance, theatre, music, rituals and performance. For her lecture at Live Culture she wound through a personal visual archive of performance related materials focused around the performing body, its mental and physical limits.This documentation has since been presented with the permission of the artist as part of the Performance Matters, Performing Idea, Performance Lecture Archive; an interactive video archive housed at the Whitechapel Gallery between 2-9 October 2010. The archive looked at examples of the performance lecture as a form of artistic and critical expression and its potential to address a broad range of cultural issues and philosophical ideas.

Performance Matters – Potentials of Performance – You Have One Unread Letter: the list continues.
British Library Sound Archive recording and documentation of Potentials of Performance events (26-27 October 2012). This third themed year of the Performance Matters project features a vibrant series of commissions exploring and exploding the dialogue as a potential format for thinking through and testing possible futures. For each audience member receives a personal letter that continues a conversation that has been taking place via email between the artis and a series of contributors regarding understandings and practices of the potentials of performance. These exchanges come in contact with each other in the performance of a common reading in space and time of writings that exhaust the question: ‘What are the potentials of performance?’ You Have One Unread Letter: the list continues also exists in the space as an installation scroll.

This third themed year of the Performance Matters project features a vibrant series of commissions exploring and exploding the dialogue as a potential format for thinking through and testing possible futures. Of Things in Motion and Things at Rest sets thoughts and actions in motion on the stage in a path towards a speculative performance encounter with the realm of the nonhuman and the secret lives held within it. Through sonic exploration of mundane objects, we aim to highlight how existent ideas of performative agency can be re-applied and re-thought with and through objects.

Alienating The Archive dramatises the archive through a Brechtian “making strange” of the material relations to documents and the systems of preservation.

This third themed year of the Performance Matters project features a vibrant series of commissions exploring and exploding the dialogue as a potential format for thinking through and testing possible futures. Talking Tabloid Trans appears as a series of prints and performed dialogue, which takes the form of a Sunday Magazine show paper review, will consider the tabloids and mass media items that posit being trans as negative, trashy, spectacular and scandalous, asking the questions: can we locate a queer project that looks to expose the normative and regulative structures which operate in mainstream media? How might we contemplate the ways in which trans in the tabloids, forms and contributes to pro-outsiderness and subcultural collectives?
