Description
I WON’T DO WHAT YOU TELL ME contains essays, transcripts, art works, reflections and photographic documentation. The book is part project part catalogue. Split into three distinct sections the book brings together artists and academics to explore the impact of gentrification and the possibility of resistance.
Inspired by the classic Rage Against the Machine track Killing in the Name the publication sets out to question the power of the 1%, ownership and legitimisation of authority through the premise of gentrification and the affects policies have at a human level. ‘I won’t do what you tell me’ acts as a form of collective reaction. Channelling the anger felt by the 90’s rock band artists and academics respond to gentrification on a local and global scale through essays, art works and performances texts.
