Description

This was the first Site work Poppy Jackson ever made, which led to the homonymous roof apex performance at Toynbee Studios as part of SPILL Festival in 2015, the performances Hay Barn (Essential Departures symposium and performance festival, New York, 2015) and Obred/Rite (Spider Festival, Ljubljana, 2016), and to a currently developing army of Site body-cast sculptures.

‘I made the drawing in my sketch book on the train to Lewisham after a shift working in Tate’s galleries. It felt momentous personally, the moment of drawing it, as if my entire practice was being encapsulated and distilled in a few lines on one small piece of paper. I wasn’t sure what the triangular shape could be – a creative space, knowledge, something conquered, a flow of energy outwards, something of the self or other, a mountain or a steeple. I filled it in with paint from the core of my body, the art centre between my legs.’
