Poppy Jackson, SUMMIT

£100.00

Description

The SUMMIT print explores the creative capacity of the female body in relation to the spaces we inhabit. The work is inspired by the figure of the Femme Maison, presented here in a powerful, energetic and protective position, charged by the architecture that she exists in conjunction with.

Poppy Jackson made this print during the start of the pandemic when she was on the verge of having a baby and prevented from actualising the scheduled Arts Council England-supported pregnant church roof performances due to Lockdown.

‘The print encapsulates the potent memories I have of the physical action of sitting naked astride roofs as part of my Site performances. It speaks of experiences of home, motherhood and the personal as political. Positioned at the apex of the architecture, SUMMIT presents the maternal body – a body so often sentimentalised, undervalued or unseen – as a figurehead at the forefront of society.’

The drawing Site that Poppy Jackson made in 2010, which inspired her roof apex performances, is also part of Pathways Home Collection, as well as a Fine Art Print version of it.
